about me

Merging her passion for classical performance practice with fostering creativity in the next generation of flutists, Wiktoria Godawa strives to continue on the centuries long legacy of the flutists before her while forging a culture of positivity, inclusiveness, and opening doors to self expression and success.

Based in Chicago, Wiktoria is primarily a freelance orchestral flute and piccoloist who maintains a vibrant private in-person and virtual studio. She often performs with the Illinois Philharmonic, the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, and others across the midwest.

Wiktoria’s students range in age from 5 all the way to adulthood. Her teaching is rooted in combining techniques firmly rooted in classical flute pedagogy, but combines elements of Suzuki to develop each and every student’s aural skills from the very beginning. The level of students in her studio ranges from very beginners who are just starting out, amateur flutists who are picking the flute up after some time away, all the way to advanced flutists who have gone on to place in competitions and go on to pursue music degrees in college. During her graduate degree, she was appointed as Instructor of Flute at Northwestern University where she was a faculty member who taught non-major flutists at the undergraduate level.

Wiktoria believes in not only independent learning, but has brought students together in group classes to build community and teach students how to be confident performers and effective team players. She has the privilege of coaching flutists in several community groups including the Windy City Winds and the Northwestern Medical Orchestra.

As a soloist, Wiktoria has received prestigious awards and placed in competitions including the South Carolina Music Educator’s Association Master Recital Competition, the MTNA Young Artist Competition, and the Powell Middleton Scholarship Competition. She was also a founding member of the wind dectet, Pennsylvania Chamber Winds, and performs chamber music throughout the Chicagoland area.

Wiktoria completed a Master of Music at Northwestern University’s Bienen School of Music under the tutelage of John Thorne, Jennifer Gunn, and Alyce Johnson. Prior to her time in Chicago, she spent a year studying under Alice Kogan Weinreb of the National Symphony, and she completed a Bachelor of Music at the West Chester University of Pennsylvania where she studied with Dr. Kimberly Reighley and Frances Tate.

Wiktoria plays on a Muramatsu DS heavy wall flute and a Burkart Elite Piccolo with a Mancke grenadilla headjoint with a 14k gold riser.
